So with all this success, it’s hard to imagine that I used to be the clueless guy fumbling around blender like a fish out water, but it’s true.
My art used to suck!
When I first started using blender I sucked, BIG TIME!
Obviously there’s a learning period but when you are still only getting 1 or 2 comments on your work after 2 years of trying there’s a problem! I knew that my lighting was right and my texturing was okay, but no matter how hard I tried my art still failed to engage the viewer.
One day I was browsing the internet and I came across an amazingly realistic render that to my surprise was produced with blender.
There was an odd quality to it that made it more interesting and step above others I had seen. It looked like it had been taken with a camera. When I researched further I discovered that these effects were created within the compositor.
Quicker than you can say ‘Google’ I was searching the internet for tutorials on using the compositor.
But surprisingly there wasn’t anyone teaching this stuff! I was soaking up every morsel of information I could find, but it wasn’t enough.
So I was forced to start experimenting…
It was painful at first. My renders were only slightly improving and I had no idea what I was doing. I was connecting nodes into random arrays that made no sense. However, little did I know, that as I was doing this I was actually developing my own unique style.
This went on for several months until finally…
Then something strange happened…

Scratch my last comment. Re-downloaded the bonus materials under windows instead of linux and they uncompressed fine. Bizarrelt got the same issue uncompressing in either windows or linux, the issue seemed to be in the download. Or the .zip file has been updated

I too have not been able to get a non damaged download. I have tried from 3 different computers and same result. It is legit. It is not selling Blender (disguised as “3DMagix”) or anything like that. It is selling advanced compositing tutorials for the latest Blender version 2.5.
I do agree tho’, the sales pitch is a bit too “infomercially” for my taste… But “blenderguru” has good credentials, and that’s the guy who is selling his expertise here.

But… where is the vault?
Finally got the book and it is awesome. I think the reason why the file got corrupted was due to how it being handled when we try to download it. I am not sure what the method is called but I believe it is a know problem one of the ways to fix the problem is to zip the documents. I was right the zipped version @Andrew Price provided fixed the problem for me at least. Now just waiting for the Bonus and the Vault.

Ah! I discovered the problem. The link in the e-mail had a space in it that my e-mail program considered the end of the link. When I copied and pasted the entire URL it worked fine. It’s downloading now.

I just got my Bonus material. Now I feel foolish for sending an e-mail to Andrew right after D/l of the book asking about my bonus material.
I also just realized I missed the Vault(extra 24-hours), but I think that might be a good thing for me.
I still learn everthing, but I also need to make my own textures instead of ripping apart others.
So I will be forced to learn that and do it. So my art will be more versatile.

I was going to purchase but PayPal make it compulsory to give out my home telephone number – unfortunately this is one step too far in terms of my personal privacy. I’m already plagued by telephone spam disrupting my evenings and I really don’t want any more. I’d love to buy but PayPal’s policy means you lost the sale. Sorry.
I agreed with many that the book is a bit expensive for a PDF. Most printed book at Barnes & Nobbles are around that price. However we must understand that he might need to pay to some publicity parties, otherwise no one would know that that book is there.
Also if we want to grow in Blender, we need to compile studies made by other Blender artists. When any of us decides to share his knowledge either for Free or in exchange of a small payment, it is still a source of Gold. I saw the video Demo. I am downloading the Free Chapter. It looks like you can really make your Blender work stay way up of the average by just learning his compiled knowledge edition. Also it has bonuses, written for 2.5! and free updates until 2011. What else can we ask for 47 bucks guys?
I take this personally, i wouldn’t mind to take this guy for a $47 dinner in exchange of all his Blender knowledge compiled in a PDF! WOULD YOU?

Is it possible to break up the Bonus Zip in three parts? Right now it’s 340MB and that’s a big file. I am on my third try to download the file but it’s not downloading the entire file and is corrupted, says windows cannot open the file invalid.

I need to know which files are included to follow the tutorials. In the “Tutorial Files” directory, I have just 4 textures. Is this correct?
Hey mjordan, ya thats what you should find in the Tutorial Files. They’re not the most super amazing thing in the bundle but they will come in handy if you find the right types of objects to apply them to in your own starter composites.

I really like how Andrew explains the order in which different effects should be applied in the compositor by making reference to how and where those effects occur in real cameras.

Cherry on the cake, on the MP3 and videos your voice is very understandable, which is very important for a French Blender user. I have to do a long travel in train in the next days, and I have put the audio files in my MP3 player. I will both study Blender and English !

If anyone is still wondering if the material is worth 47US$, i can asure you: it definetly is! The videos, audio, interviews (including a weird/funny one with the french guy) and the ebook plus the blend-files contain education and entertainment for hours or even days!
The quality is way above a “standard” pdf-ebook and explains everything from scratch.

My noise method options doesn’t have FFT…..only “Wavelet.” Using 2.5 Alpha. Where is it?
Looks great, nice work. However I might hang on until the Aussie $ climbs back Northward towards US$ parity before purchasing. A nicely rounded $A purchase option would be good.
I don’t know a lot about PDFs, but is the downloaded e-book locked to an account for security purposes or something? I downloaded it in Linux and it opens just fine there, but when I try to open it in Windows on the same desktop PC running XP or my laptop running Windows 7 it reports that the file is damaged and it won’t open. I’ve done a clean install of Adobe Reader but it makes no difference. I do Blender work in all 3 (laptop mainly to sit in the living room and save my marriage
so I’d like to be able to learn on all 3.
